That sounds awfully hard, I mean, the editing process afterwards. I really want to make voice overs, but I’m quite worried because of my accent and because I tend to speak in a very low voice.
Oh, and as for difficulty in editing, it is not difficult. It is cutting and dragging clips, exporting your file. If you can use a word processor, you already do more than that every day.
Can I do the recording on my computer, using its voice recorder? I can’t do things on my phone, I generally work from my computer. How about using the direct Substack recorder?
Yes you can record on your computer with the voice recorder. I haven’t actually tried the Substack recording, so I can’t answer that question this moment. If it let’s you export the audio file, I don’t see why not though.
People love to listen to accented speech, at least I do. We all have accents! The beauty of recording is that you can make your voice louder through digitalizing it and mastering. Try this as an experiment: using your normal voice, make a recording with your voice memo app on you phone. Save it as and MP3. Then go to BandLab and upload your clip into https://www.bandlab.com/mastering
The app will automatically increase or decrease your recording levels so that it can be heard. There are other apps that will even change the pitch of your voice. I’ve never tried those.
Thanks for this. Pretty much what I have for setup except I go back and forth between Audacity and Audition. I don’t know how to use either very well. Just enough to get along. The only part you talk about that I didn’t know about is the auto mastering. After I looked that up, I think I do that manually in a very crude way. It seems I’ll need special plugins and some idea what I’m doing to get “auto” mastering in Audition. I’m going to look into Audacity next for that.
I have a relatively cheap mic from Amazon that works pretty well. So it doesn’t have to cost much if anything to get setup and record, like you said.
Yeah, without starting a separate channel, I wasn’t sure how to post something like this. One of my fiction groups was talking about how people do their voiceovers. I probably shouldn’t have done it this way :-(
If they find it, then it has worked! Very clear and easy instructions. It is evident you have NO talent for writing instruction manuals or software documentation because “clear and easy” are obviously bad traits in those things. Keep up the fiction.

Thank a lot for your help!

And now for something completely different . . . guess the advantage of the shelf is it has a lot of stuff on it.
